They will start at the end of class on Wednesday and have the full periods to work Thursday and Friday. Students have additional materials to use for studying this weekend. Good luck Spartans!

Spanish, April 17, 2015

It's been a busy week in Spanish. The seventh graders were tested on U3L2. Most students did very well, however, some may want to take advantage of the "Request to Retest" opportunity. The Request to Retest forms are due by Tuesday, April 21. Seventh grade students started a catalog project today that will continue over the next few weeks. Eighth grade students completed their Children's Books today, converting them from a Google slide show to Flipsnack software. Students wrote their stories in Spanish using vocabulary they have learned during the last two years.

The dates for the DGS Midterm for seventh graders, and the Final Exam for eighth graders will be Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22. The review for both grades will begin next week. A review packet and calendar will go home early next week to help students prepare for the tests.

April 10, 2015

It sounds like most people had a relaxing Spring Break.
Seventh graders spent the shortened week reviewing for next Tuesday's (April 14) test on U3L2. Students reviewed how to correctly write the date, comparisons, numbers, and possessive adjectives. All students have a Study Guide and review document to help study over the weekend.
Eighth graders began writing a Children's Book in Spanish this week. They are using the vocabulary and concepts they have learned over the last two years to tell a simple story. Have a good weekend!

Students created and presented a slide show to demonstrate their understanding of comparative vocabulary. 7th graders will be tested on this current material April 14. The 8th graders took the Unit 6 Lesson 2 test this week. Students spent the rest of the week reviewing how to use "saber" and "conocer" (both mean "to know"). Enjoy your spring vacation!

March 22, 2015

I am Mrs. Burrows and looking forward to working with the Spanish students while Mrs. Bergmann is on maternity leave. If you have any questions, please contact me at aburrows@ccsd66.org.

Mrs. Bergmann did welcome a little boy, Benedict Harris, into the world March 11. Both mom and baby are doing well.

The eighth graders have a test on Unit 6 Lesson 2 this Tuesday, March 24. The seventh graders will be learning how to show comparisons.

DGS Midterm Exams

We received our Midterm Exam scores from DGS this week. I'm very pleased with the scores that the 8th graders earned. I'm excited for them to begin preparing for their final exams later this spring.
Congratulations, 8th grade Spanish students!

Week in Review

This week the 7th graders created breakfast menus based on their current vocabulary and some other words that they looked up.

Th 8th graders presented athlete trading cards that they began creating last week. They chose a professional Hispanic athlete and found information on where the athlete was born, what sport he or she plays and any notable accomplishments or prizes that the athlete has won.  Many of the cards looked great and I learned a lot about Hispanic athletes in various sports.

Have a great weekend. Stay warm!

Assessments

7th grade: Today the 7th graders took a quiz on food and beverage vocabulary. They learned to say things they like and don't like and will practice that next week in preparation for their next assessment which will be the last week of February.

8th grade: This week we ran into several technology glitches that affected the 8th grade schedule in Spanish (although I think the students were grateful for the delays). Our speaking quiz has yet again been pushed back and we will plan to take it on Tuesday, February 17. Their sports vocabulary quiz will still be on Wednesday, February 18.  They have been great at rolling with the punches and adapting as we go this week!

Upcoming Assessments

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Break. It was tough for me to get up this morning and leave my family after a great break, but it's nice to be back in a routine. Here are the upcoming assessments in 7th and 8th grade Spanish:

7th Grade:  We have a vocabulary quiz on Tuesday, January 13. The quiz will cover Describe Classroom Objects, Describe Classes and Places in School from our new U2L2 vocabulary list. Today in class the 7th graders made review quizzes on quizlet.com that they can use to help them study this week.

8th Grade:  This week we continue reviewing for the Spanish I Midterm Exam which the students will take January 12-14. We have a week left to get ready! 8th graders should be reviewing a little each day so they aren't up late cramming for the exam this weekend. There are many review materials that they can use. Check the 8th Grade Homework Blog for a list of review materials that they have.
